18 checks

Click a check to run it. Each one runs in your browser. Checks marked with ↗ send one request to a third party (see Privacy).

Security

  • Checks whether the network behind your public IP looks like a VPN, proxy, hosting or cloud provider.

  • Compares the provider of your IP with known DNS services (Google, Cloudflare, Quad9, OpenDNS). A hint, not a full DNS leak test.

  • Collects the IPv4 addresses WebRTC reveals through a STUN request. With a VPN, only the VPN address should appear.

  • Asks the Tor Project whether your IP address is a Tor exit node.

  • Shows your public IPv6 address, if you have one. A VPN that only tunnels IPv4 can leak it.

  • Reads whether your browser sends the Do Not Track signal.

Fingerprint

  • Draws a short text on a hidden canvas and shows a hash of the result: a canvas fingerprint.

  • Screen resolution and colour depth that every website can read.

  • Battery level and charging state, where the browser still offers the Battery API.

  • Number of CPU cores and, in some browsers, the device memory.

  • The list of languages your browser sends to websites.

  • Your time zone and UTC offset. A mismatch with your VPN location can give you away.

Network

  • Six round trips to Cloudflare; shows the average of the middle four.

  • Your public IP address with country and city as databases see it.

  • The provider or organisation that owns your IP address.

  • Connection type, estimated bandwidth and round-trip time from the Network Information API.

  • The browser and system string your browser sends with every request.

  • Whether your browser accepts cookies at all.

What SpeedIQ checks, and what it can't

SpeedIQ measures your download, upload and ping against Cloudflare's speed test servers and runs 18 quick checks on what your browser and IP address reveal. Everything runs in your browser. We do not store your results.

FAQ

Is SpeedIQ free?

Yes. SpeedIQ needs no account and shows no ads.

How does the SpeedIQ speed test measure?

Your browser measures ping in 6 rounds and averages the middle 4. Then it downloads test data over 8 parallel streams of up to 25 MiB and uploads over 4 streams of 12 MiB to speed.cloudflare.com. One full test can use up to about 260 MB of data.

Does SpeedIQ store my results?

No. Your last 10 results are kept only in your own browser (local storage). You can delete them with Clear.

Is the DNS leak check a full DNS leak test?

No. The check looks at the provider of your public IP address and tells you whether it looks like a known DNS provider. A full DNS leak test needs its own DNS server; our DNS leak test guide explains how to run one.
